The Tennessee State Lady Tigers faced No. 17 TCU Wednesday night and saying it was a rough night at the office would be a gross understatement. The Horned Frogs laid waste to the Lady Tigers, defeating them 122-39.
TCU forced the Lady Tigers into 34 turnovers, which they converted into 46 points. The Horned Frogs also dominated in the paint, outscoring TSU 42-16 and on the break, 52-9.
By the time Tennessee State scored its first points of the evening, an Aaniya Webb three-pointer, they were down 17-3. The closest TSU came to making the game in the first half was trimming the TCU lead down to 13 on a couple of occasions, 21-8, 23-10, and 31-18.
By the time the first half ended, Tennessee State found themselves in a 35-point hole at 59-24.
The third quarter was a nightmare for the Lady Tigers; they were outscored 36-4, shooting just 11.1% (1-9) and were down 95-28 as the game entered the final frame.
TCU grew its lead by as much as 85, before the game, mercifully, ended with an 83-point margin by 122-39.
The Lady Tigers shot just 28.1% (16-57) from the floor and 18.8% (3-16) from downtown on the evening. TCU, on the other hand, had its offense rolling, shooting 58.8% ( 40-68) and was even hotter from beyond the arc at a scoring 63% (17-27).
Amiyah Ferguson was the Lady Tigers’ leading scorer and the only player in double figures with 13 points. Maddie Scherr led 5 TCU players in double figures with 22 points. Marta Suarez added 19 points, Olivia Miles put in 17 points, Donovyn Hunter contributed 16 points and Bigby Taylor chipped in 10 points.
The Lady Tigers continue their Texas tour Friday when they take on the Mavericks of UT Arlington. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 pm CST.
